The original 4-bedroom house was purchased by a young and growing family. The house was in an ideal location for work and schooling but the rooms were generally on the small side and the circulation areas cramped and dark. The brief to G2 architects was to expand the living spaces, open up the circulation areas and add a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom.

The key design decisions were to relocate the staircase and extend the front roof slope down to the ground floor. This provided an opportunity to create a light and airy top-lit entrance hall with a gallery landing over and a new reception/dining room with a raised sloping ceiling. The extended house was over clad and fitted with new windows and services throughout to minimise long term running costs and maintenance requirements.
