The strategy for the boutique hotel envisaged the reception, meeting rooms and guest breakfast room at first floor level taking full advantage of the taller rooms and ornate window openings on the street frontage.

The drawing shows an indicative layout for an additional 8 hotel bedrooms, Depending upon local demand it would be possible to provide a range of other facilities in this zone.

A highly efficient layout of 44 bedrooms was planned around the central light-wells on the upper three floors, based upon retaining the existing window openings throughout.

A variety of ‘double’ and ‘twin’ room formats were developed with options to create ‘family suites’ by linking adjacent rooms.

The existing ‘north’ lightwell was finished in white glazed bricks. It was proposed that this be carefully restored with a new paved and planted ‘terrace’ at first floor level, that would provide a visual focus and be accessible from reception and guest breakfast rooms.
