Cart Barn, Warwickshire
An 18th century Tythe Barn (house) and Old Cart Barn (garages), formerly part of a Manor House estate, had been converted into residential accommodation in the mid-1990’s.
G2 architects was commissioned to refurbish and convert part of the Cart Barn into a studio /games room and to create a loft space home office, whilst retaining two bays as an open carport.
During the design stage a bat colony was seen to be roosting in the roof space. The project brief expanded to provide an enclosed bat loft, which subsequently formed part of the Listed Building submission and successful consent.
Western College, Bristol
The Western Theological College, built in 1905-06, was listed Grade II* in 1966 and considered to be the finest example of Arts and Craft architecture in Bristol.
In 1993 the property was acquired by doctors at The Family Practice and with a few modest alterations was converted to a doctors surgery.
After 20 years or so the practice concluded that the premises were no longer suitable to provide modern clinical and treatment facilities, and G2 architects was appointed to undertake a review of options for refurbishment.
Grosvenor Place, Bath
An established Doctors practice had been based in the Grade I listed terrace for over 40 years and spent 7 years evaluating alternative sites in the locality in order to provide larger premises and effective care for its patients.
Two previous schemes to extend the surgery into an adjacent property had been refused consent when G2 architects was appointed to review the practice space requirements and management processes, and assess the building fabric and the significant original elements and features.
The subsequent proposals to restore the original room layouts and refit the surgery facilities within them secured Planning and Listed Building consent.
Brunswick Road, Gloucester
A redevelopment project to restore two adjacent historic townhouses, one of which was Grade II listed, that had previously been occupied as offices with C20th rear extensions.
Sensitive proposals were prepared in consultation with the planning and conservation officers to retain and/or restore the historic principle rooms of the original buildings and to replace the later office extensions with a new annexe more in keeping with the context.
Conygre House, Filton
A redevelopment project to restore and return to residential use a pre-1880’s farmhouse and outbuildings that was ‘Locally Listed’, and had previously been converted and used as office accommodation.
A scheme was developed for a range of self-contained apartments, retaining the existing window openings, staircase and complex floor level arrangements.
Following a review of the history of the site and consultations with the planning authority prior approval was secured for a change of use from office use to dwelling house.
