Bath Pain Clinic at the
Royal United Hospital Bath
A refurbishment and extension project to create a new centre for pain management as part of the relocation of residential and therapy facilities from the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in the centre of Bath.
The project involved the conversion of parts of an existing residential building and the integration of three new build elements - a new two-storey reception centre in a secluded courtyard and two single-storey extensions in an unused garden area to provide larger group rooms.
RICE Centre Bath at the
Royal United Hospital Bath
The new headquarters and research centre provides care for older people with varied conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders, and research into the various forms of treatment.
An options appraisal of a number of sites at the Royal United Hospital [RUH] and detailed discussions with the local planning department led to the selection of a relatively quiet location close to associated facilities for older people, that could be readily integrated into the emerging RUH Masterplan.
Stoke Gifford
Medical Centre
The original surgery building with four consulting rooms and two treatment rooms had been designed some 20 years earlier by the predecessor practice to G2 architects.
The layout was planned around a central courtyard with a variety of expansion options anticipating an increase in the patient list.
This redevelopment project doubled the size of the building, whilst the surgery remained fully functional, to provide enhanced facilities and a greatly expanded range of services.
Heywood Surgery, Pill
G2 architects was commissioned by the Heywood Family Practice to develop a new surgery within the village to replace its cramp and out-dated premises.
After a fruitless search for a suitable site the opportunity arose to acquire the house and garden on the adjacent site and proposals were developed to extend and refurbish.
The works were designed to be implemented in consecutive phases to allow the surgery to continue to function throughout the construction stage.
Christchurch Medical Centre, Kingswood
A new build medical centre on a vacant plot designed to maximise the potential of the high street location and provide flexible spaces for future adaptation.
As well as a Doctors’ Surgery for an established local practice the new building includes an accessible Dental Suite and Travel Clinic, and a Pharmacy on the high street frontage.
The second floor contains two flats to provide accommodation for an on-site caretaker and/or a locum doctor, and ancillary study area that provides scope for additional clinical facilities in the future.
Grosvenor Place, Bath
An established Doctors practice had been based in the Grade I listed terrace for over 40 years and spent 7 years evaluating alternative sites in the locality in order to provide larger premises and effective care for its patients.
Two previous schemes to extend the surgery into an adjacent property had been refused consent when G2 architects was appointed to review the practice space requirements and management processes, and assess the building fabric and the significant original elements and features.
The subsequent proposals to restore the original room layouts and refit the surgery facilities within them obtained Planning and Listed Building consent.
